Facebook announced few hours back in a blog post that businesses now no longer need to use third-party apps and custom landing pages to run promotions and contests.
This modification or rather reversal of the original Facebook guideline of prohibiting any business page to run contests on their timeline will take us back to a couple of years when brands would freely and spontaneously hold contests without taking the effort of building 3rd party apps. The compulsion of a landing page then, had received a lot of flak especially from small businesses who had limited time and resources to manage FB page and also from larger brands to add an additional layer for promotions.
Here’s what you can do now
- Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
- Collect entries by having users message the Page
- Utilize likes as a voting mechanism
However do ensure, it’s still not OK to ask people to tag themselves in pictures of a new product in exchange for a chance to win a prize.
The ease of this Page term will certainly help small business and bring back daily contests by brands. Here are the updated Facebook Promotion Guidelines.
Would like to hear from the Industry and brands their reaction on this much talked about guideline.
